Dear Penn and Wharton Alumni:

We are kicking off the 2008 alumni club year and we want to invite you join us in the fun and camaraderie that we share as Michigan-based Penn and Wharton alumni.  To kick-off 2008 we have an outstanding event planned – Joe Dumars, the former Detroit Piston, NBA Hall of Famer and current General Manager of the Detroit Pistons has agreed to speak to our club.  Further details are below.

We are a self-funded volunteer organization that exists to support and promote the University of Pennsylvania through organized local events, interviewing Penn applicants, and representing Penn and Wharton in Michigan.

We promote all of our events via email. It is the fastest and most economical way to get the word out to the over 2,000 alumni in Michigan.  Please visit the club website at http://www.pennclubmi.org for details on events, membership, contacts, etc.

EVENTS

Over the past twelve months we have had several fun and interesting events with several more already planned for this year.  Following is the event schedule for this year:

September 18, 2007 We held our annual First September gathering to welcome recent Penn graduates and other Young Alumni new to the Detroit area.  The event was held at Big Rock Chop House in Birmingham.
December 4, 2007 We met at Mr. Joe’s Bar and Grill in Southfield to watch the Penn Men’s Basketball team take on North Carolina
January 17, 2008 Joe Dumars will be speaking to our club about “The Business of Sports; what it is like running a professional sports franchise in today's world”.  This event will be at the Birmingham Country Club with cocktails and heavy hors doeuvres.  This event is open only to Penn/Wharton alumni and their guests.  Space will be limited.  Further e-mails will provide event registration details.
March-April, 2008 A tour of the newly renovated Detroit Institute of Arts.  We are attempting to schedule a date with the DIA, where our Club could get a private tour.  Details will be provided once the event is finalized
May-June, 2008 Golf’s PGA tournament will be held at Oakland Hills in August 2008.  One of the event’s organizers will be a speaker to our Club, providing a behind the scenes look at what it takes to host one the golf’s four “Major” tournaments.  We had a similar speaker in advance of the Ryder Cup in 2004 and had a wonderful event.
Additional: We are planning additional events for later in the year, including participating with other alumni clubs as part of ATOMS and the traditional gatherings to watch Penn-Princeton basketball games.

Although there is no cost to be notified of events we do invite you to become a member of the Club. At all paid events we will offer discounts for dues-paying members, and we need your support to help perpetuate the Club and its activities. Please click on the button below to go to our Membership Renewal page on this web site, print out the form, and renew by mail.
