P. Singh, GME’69, GR’72
has donated $20 million
to Penn’s School of Engineering and
Applied Science to
create the Krishna P. Singh
Center for Nanotechnology? The
Center, a planned 100,000 square-foot facility that will
serve not only the Penn campus but the entire
Philadelphia
region, will function as a crossroads of multi-disciplinary fundamental
and translational research, education and innovation.
"Kris Singh,” the Founder and Chief
Executive of Holtec International, in
Marlton, NJ,
“has supported his alma mater in many important ways throughout the
years," Penn President Amy Gutmann said. "This far-reaching gift” the
largest in the history of the
School of Engineering
and Applied Science, “reflects his lifetime commitment to learning and
leading as well as Penn's commitment to be at the forefront in advancing
nanotechnology research."

Did You Know…

WXPN is going national? The
Penn-owned radio station
recently announced that it is taking its eclectic musical vision to the
world of television. PBS
began broadcasting a new show in May of 2007, “On
Stage At World Cafe Live” featuring live performances
recorded at University City’s
World Cafe Live concert venue.

Anne Papageorge
has been named vice president for the Division of Facilities and Real
Estate Services at Penn? A licensed landscape architect, Papageorge
managed the planning, design, and construction encompassing the
World Trade Center Memorial Museum
and cultural facilities.

Did you know....that Penn's School of Nursing has received a $5 million gift from The Annenberg Foundation to support the renovation and renaming of its building for Dean Emerita Claire M. Fagin, HON'77, HON'94, a pioneer in nursing research? Fagin, who served as dean of the Penn School of Nursing from 1977 to 1992, helped transform the profession of nursing through emphasis on research and nursing science. From 1993 to 1994, Fagin served as interim president of the University of Pennsylvania.

that Penn president, Amy Gutmann is one of 16 U.S. higher-education leaders named to the National Security Higher Education Board, an advisor to the Federal Bureau of Investigation? The board is charged with fostering outreach, promoting understanding and strengthening relations between higher-education institutions and the FBI. The FBI will look to the board for advice on the culture of education, including the traditions of openness, academic freedom and international collaboration.

that The Pennsylvania Gazette will be
available to all alumni of the University in a digital edition? The
Gazette Digital Edition is an exact replica of the printed version
of the magazine in PDF format. It can be downloaded to a computer
desktop and read using Adobe Acrobat Reader. Alumni who currently
receive the magazine may switch to the PDF version but cannot receive
both the print and digital versions. Those alumni who don't meet the
current criteria to receive the printed magazine will be able to
register for the Digital Edition. The Digital Edition will be a great
option for our international alumni due to the time lag for
international mailing.
